My compacta just had an umbel of flowers open up, and I actually caught a few pics of the flowers opening. They look so neat when they are in the process of opening, which only lasts a few hours. Even though I have seen this hoya flower a few times, I still love seeing it's flowers and I still love the smell of this one the best (chocolate).
Really neat picture series of hoyas in flower! I owned one when I used to live in Northern Ontario for a long time (4 yrs?) until it succumbed to overwatering, and it never once bloomed. Even though it was in a south window, it really didn't do much, and it didn't grow very much for me either. That being said, I still love these plants and now that I live in a zone 5 environ, I am tempted to try again. Alas, they are expensive when grown to any size.
I've had one of these plants for about 7 years, it bloomed for the first time last summer. They were, by far, the stinkiest flowers I've ever had the displeasure of smelling. Is that the way they're supposed to smell?
I love reading everyone's comments. Thank you so much for dropping by my blog. I try to check out everyone's blog that leaves a comment, but I am not always sure what to say to other's as comments. So even though it may seem I am not around much, I always am, I just don't know what to say!
Interesting progression. I'm still fascinated with these flowers!

I was just introduced to Hoyas last week. They are very interesting, I wish I had smelled the flowers.
ReplyDeleteGreat progression shots. I recently was given a clipping from 1 of these but have never seen the flowers. Thanks
ReplyDeleteVery nice series of pics.
